At present the Estonian History Museum has over 265 000 items: objects, documents, photos and printed matter. The basic collection is divided into the following: archaeology, ethnography, numismatics, weapons, art, cultural history, textiles, photos, printed matter, documents, glass and ceramics. Together with items originating from Estonia, material from other countries of the world are stored and kept. The oldest finds date from the Palaeolithic period (400 000 years ago) and the newest from the present times.
